I finally found the courage to start working on my dream project: a game all about Solaire, one of my favorite characters from Dark Souls 1. I’ve always loved him so much that I’ve even been trying my hand at cosplaying him!

Why Solaire? My Inspiration Behind the Project

The game I want to make is going to be an isometric souls-like, with an art style inspired by Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario RPG. My plan is to keep the playtime around 45 minutes to an hour — something manageable but still meaningful. The story begins on the iconic bridge where we first meet Solaire in Dark Souls 1. From there, I want to explore how he reached the later points in the game: the struggles he faced, his inner state of mind, and his ongoing search for what the “sun” really means to him.

"If I can write the story the way I imagine, it could even turn into a game with strong philosophical undertones."

Early Progress Low-Poly Models and First Prototypes

So far, I’ve made low-poly models of Solaire and a basic skeleton enemy. They’re just prototypes for now, but I definitely want to make Solaire a much more expressive character in the future. Even under his helmet, I want players to feel his emotions. That means I’ll need to dive deeper into advanced rigging and topology to bring him to life.

On the development side, I’ve also taken my first steps with Unity. Right now, Solaire can walk, roll, attack, and even defeat enemies. It may not sound like much, but for me, this already feels like a huge leap forward — the foundation of the project is finally there.

Looking Ahead What’s Next for the Project

I’ll be posting devlogs here as the project grows, so you’ll be able to follow every step of the journey. Thanks so much for taking the time to read about my project. I really hope my work will live up to your interest.

Take care, and see you in the next Log!
